The use of the mother tongue in teaching a foreign language

Abstract
This article considers one of the most critical issues in methods of teaching a foreign language – the use of the mother tongue in teaching a foreign language. The article analyses psychological and methodological aspects of this issue. The article also looks at the appropriateness of the use of the mother tongue in teaching different aspects of a foreign language both at the stage of its presentation and drilling.
