While lexical innovation has often been discussed in terms of form-based (morphological) creativity, the present study foregrounds the cognitive-semantic mechanisms that motivate formally creative coinages. Drawing on the distinction between form-based and meaning-based creativity, the article investigates how metaphor functions as a key source of semantic innovation underlying neologisms in English language chick lit. The study is based on a self-compiled corpus of 36 English language chick lit novels, from which 141 formally creative neologisms were extracted. The article adopts the framework of creative use of metaphor, identifying such mechanisms as the extension of conventional metaphorical mappings, the application of metaphors to targets they are not conventionally associated with, the interaction of metaphor with metonymy in a novel way, the alteration of metaphorical valence, and the introduction of additional detail. Through detailed qualitative analysis, the article demonstrates that meaning(metaphor)-based creativity in chick lit neologisms is not based on entirely novel conceptual mappings. Instead, it typically arises from the elaboration, recombination, or reorientation of entrenched metaphors, which are exploited for humorous, evaluative, and expressive purposes. The findings highlight the embodied and experiential grounding of metaphor-based neologisms and show how they contribute to characterisation, emotional engagement, and social critique. Overall, the study argues that chick lit provides a particularly fertile domain for observing the interplay between form-based and meaning-based creativity in contemporary English word formation.</p> Maryna Bielova Copyright (c) 2026-05-29 2026-05-29 103 7 15 10.26565/2786-5312-2026-103-01 Adjectival characterisation of Ukraine in the English Web 2021 (enTenTen21) corpus https://periodicals.karazin.ua/foreignphilology/article/view/29612 <p>The study explores adjectival characterisation of <em>Ukraine</em> in the English Web 2021 (enTenTen21) corpus. Functioning as noun modifiers, adjectives qualify referents, describing and evaluating them, thus shaping the perspective through which they are viewed and assessed. The aim of this study is to investigate the image of <em>Ukraine</em> created through such modification, and its relevance lies in the fact that the analysed corpus was created before the full-scale Russian assault on <em>Ukraine</em>.</p> <p>Adjectives collocating with the lemma <em>Ukraine</em> are identified, analysed and organised into several thematic domains based on their semantics and contextual use: territory and climate, eras and timeframes, politics and geopolitics, features and perceptions, economic state, war and conflict, society and identity. The findings show a complex and ambivalent portrayal of the country, with the majority of modifiers characterising <em>Ukraine’s</em> territorial divisions, historical development, current geopolitical status and sovereignty, and evaluatively depicting its positive and negative qualities. Frequent references to the Soviet past, Russia’s occupation and annexation of Crimea, and the ongoing war in the east highlight the challenges faced by <em>Ukraine</em> in establishing itself as a sovereign and unified state on the global stage. Negative portrayals, often amplified by Russian disinformation, depict <em>Ukraine</em> as unstable, controlled, or corrupt, whereas positive descriptors emphasise its modernity, independence, resilience, unity, and aspirations for European integration.</p> <p>Overall, the adjectival representation of <em>Ukraine</em> in the analysed online discourse constructs a complex and ideologically charged image of the country, marked by polarisation between depictions of its strength and vulnerability, unity and fragmentation, a tumultuous historical past alongside a future-oriented European trajectory. The aim of this article is to determine the role of the multimodal cascade as a mechanism for constructing meaning in environmental video discourse. The study is based on multimodal discourse analysis and Leonard Talmy’s Force Dynamics framework, which allows modeling causal relations through the dynamics of interacting force factors. The corpus comprises 67 Greenpeace videos representing global environmental issues and including calls to action. The concept of the multimodal cascade is justified as a sequence of meaning-making stages in which verbal, visual, and auditory resources interact within a single causal system. Each element of the cascade enhances the meaning of the preceding one, demonstrating the dynamics of resource force. The qualitative analysis revealed typical combinations of verbal, visual, and auditory resources for modeling force dynamics across stages: Causal Trigger, Systemic Cause, Consequence Escalation, and Call to Action. The specifics of the relationship between individual creative intentions and the social context is considered to be a relevant issue in ecolinguistics. The aim of the study is to characterize the use of creative means – lexical, stylistic and discursive, verbal and non-verbal, inherent in the speech of Queen Elizabeth II, and, thus, to determine the linguo-creativity characteristics of public speeches of the British monarchy. From an ecological point of view, the linguo-creativity of discursive personalities is manifested in their creative activities and specifically expressed in the dialogical process. For the analysis of communication, an interdisciplinary methodology was used as a basis, in the format of which a creative personality of Queen Elizabeth with her own stable system of socially significant features, own communicative style acts to create spiritual values. The individuality of Queen Elizabeth II's linguistic style lies in its socio-psychological, aesthetic, philosophical and artistic-philological manifestations. The preservation of traditional national-cultural norms of communication and adherence to formal communicative conventions that enhance the institutional features of royal discourse characterize the Queen's public speeches. The article also examines markers of emotional self-expression. Along with the rhetoric of institutional representation with a characteristic sophistication of style, support for a balanced style of expression, the use of ceremonial vocabulary, inclusive pronouns, etc., the Queen delivers speeches built on personal stories and emotional memories, in which she demonstrates the ability to create new metaphorical images and bright stylistic content. Based on associative representations, a language game arises as a form of linguo-creative activity, which is associated with a deliberate violation of linguistic and speech norms of communication with the aim to perform certain functions. Hemingway: a comparative cognitive linguistic analysis. https://periodicals.karazin.ua/foreignphilology/article/view/29616 <p><strong>.</strong> The article offers a comprehensive comparison of semantic and cognitive linguistic properties of color terms in the novels <em>A Farewell </em><em>То </em><em>Arms</em> and <em>For</em><em> Whom the Bell Tolls </em>by E. Hemingway. The methodology leveraged in the paper combines key procedures of semantic, contextual, and conceptual kinds of analysis. The first stage of the research aimed to reveal peculiarities and frequency of usage of three aspects of color (hue, saturaton, brightness) and certain colors in each novel. In both of them, hue dominates. Despite differences in the number of the used hues, their relative frequency is similar, manifesting the prevalence of white, gray, red, black, and brown colors. During the second stage, the axiological charge of color terms in E. Hemingway’s novels was analyzed. As we have established, positively charged colors prevail in <em>A Farewell </em><em>То </em><em>Arms, </em>whereas <em>For</em><em> Whom the Bell Tolls </em>doesn’t display a significant discrepancy between the usage of color terms with positive and negative connotations. In the former novel, white, brown, green, blue, and yellow colors have positive evaluation, while in the latter, the same is true of brown and green. Negative charge is symptomatic of gray in black in <em>A Farewell </em><em>То </em><em>Arms </em>and red and black in <em>For</em><em> Whom the Bell Tolls. </em>In both novels, saturation is mostly negatively charged, whereas brightness is charged positively. At the third stage, the conceptual organization of colored objects in both novels was analyzed. To do that, we applied the notions of conceptual sphere and domain used in cognitive linguistics in combination with basic propositional schemas (BPS). This conceptual organization proved to be similar for both novels, where colored objects from the domains BODY PARTS and ARTEFACTS within the conceptual sphere HUMAN dominate. Generally, color schemes of E. The research material is an article „Wolodymyr Selensky: Der volksnahe Millionär“ and a reportage „Als wäre der Krieg nur ein Spiel“ from popular German-language online media. Media texts, as the main instruments of information dissemination, value transmission, and ideology formation, serve as significant carriers of sociocultural meanings – not only within a single country but also beyond its borders. The aim of the study is to identify and systematize sociocultural elements that are realized through linguistic, stylistic, and conceptual means in contemporary German-language journalism.</p> <p>The methodological basis of the research is the scheme of linguistic-stylistic analysis proposed by L.&nbsp;Pikhtovnikova, adapted for the study of journalistic discourse. The study applies a combination of methods: discourse analysis, linguistic-stylistic and semiotic analysis, frame modelling of concepts, and elements of content analysis. Special attention is given to identifying cultural codes (somatic, spatial, temporal, material, biomorphic, and spiritual) that structure the journalistic text and reflect the society’s mental, moral, and axiological orientations.</p> <p>The analysis shows that the selected article represents the sociocultural image of the new Ukrainian political elite, which combines national authenticity, democracy, and European values. The reportage reveals the spiritual and psychological dimension of socioculture in wartime conditions – depicting the struggle for freedom, national dignity, and human solidarity. This research is motivated by the growing importance of visualisation in contemporary culture and by the increasing role of clothing as a powerful medium of communication, in which the verbal component (textual print) performs informative, social identity, and symbolic functions. Presentational discourse appears as a semiotic system reflecting an individual’s desire for self-presentation and social image construction, which intensifies scholarly interest in analysing the strategies and tactics of its representation. The aim of the article is to develop a comprehensive typology of communicative tactics in English presentational discourse (based on clothing inscriptions) and to determine their pragmatic potential in the modern media space. The study employs a combination of pragmatic analysis, discourse analysis, and quantitative methods. The empirical data comprise 300 English clothing microtexts, collected via continuous sampling from global brands, reflecting current communicative trends. The findings indicate that communicative tactics serve as multifunctional tools for identity construction. Based on the analysis, 12 tactics have been identified and systematised, with the constative and command tactics dominant, reflecting the priority of direct, categorical influence. The study shows that its theoretical significance lies in deepening understanding of the mechanisms of linguistic self-presentation, while its practical relevance offers significant potential for interdisciplinary research in linguoculturology and sociolinguistics. The focus is placed on morphosyntactic and semantic means of verbalizing the active and passive voices, as well as intermediate meanings that arise from the interaction of grammatical and lexical markers. The paper analyzes the specific features of mediopassive, reflexive, inertive, and conditionally passive constructions in Gothic, Old Icelandic, Old English, and Old High German. Particular attention is paid to the role of reflexive pronouns, copular verbs, participles, verbal inflections, and verbal proto-forms as key indicators of the formation of the voice category in Old Germanic languages, as well as to the mechanisms of semantic shift from active structures to reflexive and passive-like ones. The study employs comparative-historical, structural-semantic, and functional-pragmatic methods, which makes it possible to identify common Indo-European features and specifically Germanic innovations in the process of the formation of the voice category. The article substantiates the thesis of the polyfunctionality of reflexes, which in Old Germanic languages serve as a means of grammaticalization of mediopassive and voice-transitional meanings. The obtained results deepen the understanding of the evolution of the verbal system of Germanic languages and may be used in further research on historical grammar, the typology of the voice category, and the reconstruction of the Proto-Germanic language system. The author also examines the relationship between the voice category and the valency characteristics of the verb, as well as the syntactic organization of utterances in Old Germanic texts. It is shown that reflexes play an important role in modeling subject–object relations and contribute to the neutralization of the agent or its semantic impersonalization. The influence of textual genre and discursive context on the choice of voice forms is outlined. The relevance of the study is stipulated by the growing scholarly interest in ritualized forms of political rhetoric and the need for an integrated reconsideration of the Speech from the Throne as a specific genre of institutional communication that combines the features of ceremony, political agenda presentation, and persuasiveness. In this study, the Speech from the Throne is approached not only as a protocol text but as a strategically organized discourse aimed at legitimizing the government’s agenda and constructing the symbolic unity of the state. The aim of the article is to analyse Speeches from the Throne by British monarchs of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries as a genre of ritualized political discourse and to identify the principal stylistic and rhetorical devices that ensure implementation of governmental agendas. Thus, methods of linguostylistic and rhetorical analyses are applied to stylistically marked units at various levels (lexical, morphological, and syntactic). The findings demonstrate that the Speech from the Throne operates at the intersection of the official and publicist styles, combining formulaic standardization with expressive persuasive techniques. The most productive stylistic figures include anaphora, antithesis, gradation, and tripartite constructions, which structure the text, foreground key agenda provisions, and enhance its rhythmic and intonational organization. Repetition explicates institutional authority, antithesis sharpens axiological oppositions, while gradation and tripartite patterns establish logical completeness and semantic hierarchy. The relevance of the study is determined by Ukraine’s active participation in global political processes and the need to ensure high-quality French–Ukrainian simultaneous interpreting, which remains insufficiently studied in contemporary translation and interpreting studies. The aim of the study is to identify and analyze the strategies used by interpreters when rendering French political speech into Ukrainian, taking into account the structural and semantic asymmetries of the languages. The research material includes fragments of statements made by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and their simultaneous interpreting into Ukrainian. The analysis showed that basic strategies prevail in simultaneous interpreting, namely anticipation, segmentation combined with pause distribution, compression, restructuring, and expansion. Their use is motivated by the need to ensure the continuity of translation in the context of complex French syntax, a high speech rate, and limited processing time. These strategies enable interpreters to effectively structure utterances, optimize the amount of information, and adapt it to the norms of the target language while preserving the logical coherence and communicative adequacy of the message. At the same time, in situations of increased complexity, interpreters employ emergency strategies, in particular omission, which have a compensatory character and allow them to maintain the pace of interpretation and avoid cognitive overload. As translators increasingly engage in creative and strategic digital text production, existing competence marginalize these practices, widening the gap between theory and professional reality. The study analyses how digital transformation practices reconfigures translator competence, emphasizing the integration of technological, cognitive, and creative skills in translation practice and training. The study adopts a qualitative analytical approach that combines theoretical review with comparative analysis. The article demonstrates that proofreading, rewriting&nbsp;/&nbsp;restyling, copywriting, posting&nbsp;/&nbsp;dissemination, and naming constitute distinct yet interconnected professional domains that should be recognized as core digital transformation practices rather than auxiliary activites. Each practice is shown to have specific aims, defining features, and practical implications for contemporary translation process. The analysis reveals a clear shift from equivalence-based, text-centred translation models toward purpose-driven, audience-oriented, and technologically mediated communication. The problem is defined by the significant typological distance between Chinese and Ukrainian, the specifics of the Chinese grammatical and morphological system, the logographic writing, and the abundance of culturally marked elements that complicate automated processing. The aim of the study is to identify the capabilities, limitations, and overall effectiveness of CAT tools in translating Chinese texts of various styles and genres. The research methodology includes stylistic analysis, linguistic comparison, evaluation of machine-assisted translation quality, and analysis of &nbsp;translator productivity when using translation memories, terminology databases, and integrated machine translation modules.</p> <p>The results demonstrate that CAT systems increase translation speed by 30–50%, ensure terminological consistency, and facilitate the handling of large text corpora; however, their efficiency decreases when translating idioms, chengyu, neologisms, and topic–comment sentence structures. Special attention is paid to segmentation issues, the rendering of aspectual and temporal meanings, adaptation of classifiers, and the transmission of context-dependent semantics. The conclusions emphasize that the successful use of CAT technologies in Chinese–Ukrainian translation requires a combination of technological competence and deep linguistic and cultural knowledge, along with continuous updating of linguistic resources and critical evaluation of automated suggestions.</p> Svitlana Virotchenko Victoria Molotok Copyright (c) 2026-05-29 2026-05-29 103 105 111 10.26565/2786-5312-2026-103-12 The strategies of rendering the stylistic device of foregrounding in the translation of flash fiction stories https://periodicals.karazin.ua/foreignphilology/article/view/29626 <p>The article considers the aspects of foregrounding and the stylistic means of their realization in the contemporary English flash fiction and microfiction stories. Foregrounding is defined as a device of a literary text organization aimed at concentrating the reader's attention at the most semantically and pragmatically important elements of the utterance. Two aspects of foregrounding are investigated - quantitative and qualitative ones (G.&nbsp;Leech) - from the viewpoint of strategies of their translation. Under the strategy of translation we understand not a single technique but a variety of translation techniques applied to render the aesthetic and pragmatic effects of the source text. The investigation reveals that the qualitative aspect of foregrounding in the analyzed flash fiction stories manifests itself in original metaphors, mainly extended metaphors, oxymoron and antithesis, often creating paradox. The quantitative aspect of foregrounding is realized in both flash fiction and microfiction by stylistic convergences. A distinctive feature of convergences in these texts is their location in strong positions, mainly in the endings. The convergences are based on the interaction of metaphors with alliterations ("Traveling Alone", "Whispers"), or metaphors with parallel constructions and antithesis ("Father", "Bullhead", "My Date with Neanderthal Woman"). The metaphors in convergences foreground the ideas of love, tolerance, sympathy as well admiration of nature, its eternal life. The techniques of translating the stylistic means realizing the qualitative aspect include literal translation, specification and compensation. The relevance of this topic is determined by the need for an in-depth examination of lexical changes that occur in the process of translating from English into Ukrainian, as well as by the need to clarify their role in ensuring an adequate rendering of the meaning of the original text. The article examines lexical translation transformations in English-Ukrainian literary translation based on the novel “Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros and its Ukrainian version “Chetverte krylo”, translated by Oleksii Manko and Bohdan Horvat. The aim of the study is to identify the specific features of the use of translation transformations and to determine their role in achieving translation equivalence and an adequate rendering of the semantic content of the source text. The main method used in the study is the descriptive method, which makes it possible to outline the main theoretical foundations of the research. The method of continuous sampling was applied to select illustrative material. The comparison of linguistic units of the original and the translation is carried out through comparative and interpretative analysis of textual material in order to reveal the specific features of the transformations that constitute the subject of the study. As a result of the conducted examination, it has been established that the translation actively employs such lexical transformations as antonymic translation, semantic development, concretization, addition, omission, combined transformations, compensation, transliteration, transcription, and generalization. In Soviet Ukraine during the 1920s–1930s, this process was complicated by the ideological pressure of the Marxist-Leninist paradigm and the transition from Ukrainization (1923–1929) to Stalinist Russification and censorship. Unlike fiction, translation in the humanities and social sciences demanded exceptional terminological precision and was fully subordinated to ideological requirements. The purpose of the article is to examine the emergence and development of non-fiction prose translation in the humanities and social sciences of Soviet Ukraine in the 1920s–1930s within the context of political and linguistic transformations. The research methods are based on Anthony Pym’s “archaeology of translation”: a manual bibliographical reconstruction of the corpus from library catalogs and archives (since no systematic lists exist), supplemented by comparative and terminological analysis. The main findings indicate that Oleksandr Finkel’s monograph Theory and Practice of Translation (1929) was a pioneering work regarding non-fiction translation in the USSR and became institutionalized at the Kyiv Institute of Linguistic Education. In the 1920s, hundreds of direct translations from German, French, and English were produced in pedagogy, psychology, philosophy, and Marxism. From the early 1930s onward, direct translation was gradually replaced by Russian-mediated versions, while censorship intensified. The 1933 resolutions of Narkomos and the 1933–1934 campaign against “nationalistic translator-saboteurs” led to the russification of terminology and widespread repressions. The conclusions highlight the evolution of translation in the humanities and social sciences—from an intellectual breakthrough of the Ukrainization era to totalitarian control. Despite the losses, translational activity in this field laid the foundations for connections with global scholarly thought. The relevance of the study is determined by the insufficient attention paid to the topics of war and emigration in the works of Ukrainian diaspora writers. The aim of the study is to analyse the linguistic and stylistic means of forming character images and to identify strategies for reproducing artistic images of Ukrainians in the short story “My dead brother comes to America”. The study involved the application of a number of methods, including structural-semantic, linguistic-stylistic, contextual and comparative analyses. The translation was made by the author, which allowed to introspectively determine the motivation for the translator’s decisions. The results of the analysis of the translation of Ukrainian artistic images allow us to conclude that the use of the strategies of neutral reproduction and intensification contributes to the faithful rendering of the psychological portrait of a Ukrainian family and allows us to convey its traumatic war and emigration experiences. The purpose of the article is to identify and systematically analyse the stylistic markers of tolerance and inclusivity in the translation of socio-political texts of the 2020s from English into Ukrainian and to identify translation strategies that achieve ethical correctness and adequate reproduction of the modern discourse. The material for the analysis is modern English-language research in the field of translation studies and original texts dating from the first half of the 21st century. The purpose of the article is to identify and systematically analyze stylistic markers of tolerance and inclusivity in the translation of socio-political texts from English into Ukrainian in the 2020s, and to determine translation strategies that achieve ethical correctness and accurate rendering of modern discourse. The material for the analysis consists of modern English-language research in the field of translation studies and original texts dating from the first half of the 21st century. It has been established that linguistic inclusion has become an effective way to restore social justice and ensure respect for every human difference through its correct nomination and favorable attitude, especially in the socio-political discourse we are considering. It has been determined that such texts are a challenge for Ukrainian translators, as we still do not have effective strategies and mechanisms in place to regulate the methods of adequately adapting “sensitive” vocabulary to linguistic norms and the choice of correct names for various social phenomena. Specialists must decide for themselves how to accurately convey the meaning of the original without violating the norms of the modern Ukrainian literary language and the ethical standards of the country whose socio-political text is being translated. The article describes the specifics of lexical, syntactic, cultural, and stylistic markers of tolerance and inclusiveness, which are used to ensure adequate and ethical reproduction of the original text. The analysis of theoretical and practical materials on the outlined issue allowed us to determine the orientation of the markers, including the rules for choosing the necessary feminitives, using the person-first language, adhering to a neutral position when translating socio-political terms, and also controlling the choice of evaluative or stigmatized forms. It was determined that lexical, syntactic, stylistic and cultural markers of tolerance and inclusion help translators adequately reproduce the original texts, preserve their content and pragmatism, and avoid discrimination and stigmatization of individual social groups. It was concluded that during the war in Ukraine, translation balances between the global DEI standards and the national, patriotic and value-based features of speech. The aim of the article is to identify the role of explicitation in achieving communicatively effective English-Ukrainian translation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. The objectives of the article include clarifying the concept of explicitation as a translation solution and identifying and describing the types of explicitation in the analyzed English-Ukrainian translation. The object of the analysis is explicitation as a method of rendering the meaning of an original English-language legal term in Ukrainian, while the subject presupposes identifying the types of explicitation in the English-Ukrainian translation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. The material for the analysis consists of examples of explicitation in the English-Ukrainian translation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. The novelty of the study lies in the systematic analysis of explicitation as a manifestation of the expansion of the grammatical structure of a legal term in translation, which indicates the instability and ongoing formation of the terminological system of the target language. As a result of the study, three types of explicitation are distinguished: lexical (replacement of a hyperonym with a hyponym), lexico-grammatical (distribution of the meaning of one structural unit among several units and the addition of new units), and grammatical (division of sentences and expansion or elevation of the status of a phrase to the level of a subordinate clause). The obtained data prove that the structural organization of the current state of Ukrainian legal terminological system is a dynamic indicator of its gradual transition from the phase of formation to the stage of maturity – from the expansion of grammatical structure and polysemy, characteristic of the current stage, to structural equivalence and terminological stability. Such development is required for the successful harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with international standards and for the formation of a self-sufficient, stable legal language system. The relevance of the study stems from the ongoing debate regarding methodological approaches to determining the translator’s agency within a literary text – ranging from the poststructuralist concept of the ‘death of the author’ and the translator’s ‘invisibility’ to the theory of the ‘third space’. The aim of our study is to provide a theoretical examination of the issue of authorship in translated literary texts, using the example of Ukrainian translations of Dante Alighieri’s <em>The </em><em>Divine Comedy</em> and analysing them through the lens of methodological approaches from the 20th and 21st centuries. The research material consisted of literary translations (complete works and excerpts) into Ukrainian of Dante Alighieri’s <em>The </em><em>Divine Comedy</em>, produced during the 19th–21st centuries. The primary research method employed was comparative analysis, with an emphasis on a cross-cultural approach. An analysis of the evolution of translation studies revealed three main conceptual approaches to the interaction between author and translator within the translated text: authorial dominance, translatorial dominance, and the model of co-creation. In the case of the Ukrainian translation of Dante’s works, we also encounter instances of more complex translational interaction, notably editorial intervention and a conscious intertextual dialogue between translators of different generations, which has manifested as a modification of the ‘one author – one translator’ model into various hybrid configurations. The transcultural approach and the theory of the ‘third space’ explain the phenomenon of hybridity in the authorship of a translated text, which can be partially elucidated through a narratological analysis of textual levels – diegesis and exegesis. Within the translated text, the translator acts not merely as a mediator, but as an architect of hybridity, who, through a strategy of mimicry, creates a new cultural product. The aim of this article is to analyze and systematize the author’s pedagogical experience in implementing contemporary student-centered teaching methods in the instruction of the theoretical courses Academic Writing and Rhetoric and Theoretical Course of the German Language within the degree programs Language and Literature (German). The study employs analysis and synthesis of scholarly and methodological literature, comparative analysis, generalization of pedagogical experience, observation of the educational process, as well as descriptive and interpretative methods.</p> <p>Results. The article presents the classification of teaching methods in higher education proposed by K.&nbsp;Walter and F.&nbsp;Waldherr within the student-centered educational paradigm. The effectiveness of self-reflection questionnaires and learning journals as tools for identifying students’ educational needs, expectations, and learning dynamics is substantiated. In addition, the brainstorming method adapted to linguo-futurological issues is applied. The findings demonstrate that brainstorming facilitates the integration of theoretical analysis of global challenges with the development of German-language communicative skills.</p> <p>Conclusions. The relevance of the study is conditioned by the growing role of specialized terminology in the professional activity of translators and the insufficient coverage in academic literature of the quantitative assessment of the level of acquisition of domain-specific vocabulary within particular training courses.</p> <p>The aim of the article is to determine the level of acquisition of military terminology by master’s students for whom English is either the first or the second foreign language, and to assess the influence of the specialized course <em>Military Translation</em> on the size of their acquired terminology. The study presents a system of exercises for mastering active military vocabulary based on six thematic sections of the course covering major types of weapons and combat operations. The system includes classroom and independent tasks aimed at the gradual development of skills in using terminology at the level of words, texts, and communicative interpreting situations. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed exercise system, a diagnostic test was conducted among master’s students enrolled in the <em>Military Translation</em> course. The test involved the translation of 120 terminological units from English into Ukrainian and from Ukrainian into English without the use of reference materials. The results demonstrated a relatively high level of terminology acquisition: the average accuracy rate reached 87%, with slightly higher results observed in translation from English.</p> <p>The study concludes that the proposed system of exercises contributes to the effective acquisition of military terminology by students. However, the results should be considered preliminary due to the limited number of participants. The article reveals the specific features of training future foreign language teachers, which are determined by the combination of linguistic and methodological aspects of professional development. In view of this, the author's methodology for forming foreign language discursive competence of higher education seekers for professional written communication in the conditions of digitalization, which includes prognostic, activity-strategic and communicative-productive components, is substantiated. The peculiarity of the article is its connection with professional practice of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University students. Taking the abovementioned into account the aim of the article is the analysis of transformations having been used for the article material translation, their&nbsp; appropriateness and the description of the practice results. To achieve this aim it is suggested to&nbsp; concentrate on such tasks as the review of military translation manuals and theoretical papers focusing on the close problems, to define linguistic analysis directions in studying Ukrainian - English translation of military texts and translation transformations in the factual material (military news and heroes biographies on the local site "eDnipro").&nbsp; Such traditional methods of linguistic analysis as descriptive and comparative are used in the article. The steps of work at the article include factual material accumulation, defining transformations used in translations, evaluation of the translation quality. 60 news and biographies have been analyzed at lexical, morphological, syntactic and stylistic levels, quantitative assessment has been done. Structure and terminological text fulfillment has been kept in general, transposition (92%), omission (22%), modulation (20%), addition (15%), generalization (12%) were used. The increasing digitalisation of defence systems, NATO requirements for interoperability, and the global dominance of English as an operational lingua franca call for innovative pedagogical approaches. The article develops a comprehensive theoretical and applied framework for professionally oriented English language teaching using AI in military higher education institutions.</p> <p>The methodology combines a theoretical synthesis of research on AI in ELT, a comparative analysis of intelligent learning systems, scenario-based learning modelling, and the alignment of competencies with the CEFR and NATO STANAG 6001 standards. Particular attention is paid to large language models, speech recognition systems, automated writing assessment tools, adaptive grammar diagnostics, and AI-based simulation environments.</p> <p>The results of the study show that AI integration improves personalised learning trajectories, accelerates the acquisition of military terminology, enhances pronunciation accuracy, strengthens discourse competence, and supports communicative learning under stressful conditions. Practical training models and a semester-based implementation plan are proposed.
