Volodymyr Industrialization in the Late Russian Empire and its Key Factors in the Historiography
Abstract
The paper analyses the scholarly discourse on the success of industrialization in the Late Russian Empire and its key factors. It demonstrates that the industrialization has been attributed to three main driving forces: the Russian government, foreign business, and Russian entrepreneurship. However, the significance and contribution of these actors have been a matter of debate. The paper argues that the weight of these actors showed considerable changes during the last fifty years of the Russian Empire. Consequently, the conclusions of individual researchers were largely influenced by their chronological focus, that is, which stage of the industrialization they analyzed.
