Orthography as an instrument of political struggle
Abstract
This article focuses on the introduction by the Ministry of national education of the French spelling reform,originally proposed in 1990, in secondary schools. The problem of spelling reform is one of the actual language problems, which concerns not only specialists, but also ordinary citizens. Purpose and reasons of this political decision, French society’s response to there form and possible consequences of this reform are analyzed. The article also deals with the usefulness of the spelling’s simplification.
