Contemporary Spanish Slang: the impact of graphic cuts in sms on phonetics

Abstract

The article examines the Spanish youth sms and internet slang and reveals its basic linguistic features: the omission of vowels, the absence of stress, the use of the names of letters of the alphabet to denote syllables or transfer of special pronunciation which is characterized the youth culture. Identified and studied the main features of the short message, internet communications, linguistic resources extralinguistic means (emoticons) and their functions in the sms and internet correspondence: rationalization of the language through the economy of language means and time. The opportunity to express their emotions, due to the peculiarities of the Spanish national character, the main features of which is the expression of emotion and speech. The future prospects of using sms and internet slang also are analyzed.
