Abstract

The article analyses the literature to define the content of the concepts basic to this study, considers the content of the concepts of ‘management’, ‘management process’, and considers the possibility of improving the educational process through the introduction of distance education.

The analysis of scientific literature suggests that management is a system consisting of many interdependent structural and functional components subordinated to one goal, the main feature of which is integrity. The concept of ‘managerial activity’ was also clarified as scientifically based actions of the administration and teachers aimed at rational use of time and effort of teachers and students in the educational process for the purpose of in-depth study of academic subjects, moral education, preparation for an informed choice of profession and comprehensive personal development. The management process of any enterprise involves four main functions: planning, organization, motivation and control.

Based on the analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature, the essence of the concepts of ‘distance education’ and ‘distance learning’ is defined. Distance education is a form of education with the use of computer and telecommunication technologies, which provides interactive interaction between teachers and students at different stages of learning and independent work with the materials of the information network. Distance learning is  considered as a new form of education aimed not only at developing knowledge, skills and abilities in a particular field, but also at developing personal qualities of students: discipline, independence, responsibility, cooperation. The advantages of distance education and the main forms of distance learning are identified. Distance learning is one of the areas of management of an educational institution in a market economy. The purpose of distance learning is to provide educational services through the use of modern information and communication technologies in teaching at certain educational or educational qualification levels in accordance with the State educational standards.

The article analyses the development of distance learning in the countries of the world and Ukraine, generalizes and systemizes the organisational structure of the distance learning system in Ukraine.
