Abstract

Results of measurement of dielectric characteristics of an aqueous solution of bovine serum albumin (BSA) gamma-irradiated by doses 15 and 30 Gy in the concentration range 5 - 100 mg/ml are presented.
Measurements of real and imaginary parts of complex dielectric permittivity have been realized by the microwave dielectric method at 9.2 GHz. It was found that hydration of native BSA is 0.2 - 0.25 g/g.
Concentration dependence of dielectric permittivity has a complicated character. For low concentrated protein solutions (up to 20 mg/ml) the value of dielectric permittivity for radiation-exposed protein samples
is less than that in control that indicates an increase of water bounded by protein. For higher concentrations (more than 20 mg/ml) the dielectric permittivity grows and exceeds control roughly level by one
unit under exposure to dose 15 Gy and half unit at dose 30 Gy that can be explained by protein structure indurations.
