Polyculture and Polycultural Approach in Comparative Investigations of the Ballad
Abstract
The article considers usage of the polycultural approach in comparative ballad investigations. The basis of this approach is the international polylogue of cultures, that is conductive to comprehensive analysis of cultural diversity including literary works. Binominal character of polycultural phenomena allows to compare external structure and internal content of literary works that is considered to be the aim of comparative literary studies. Ballad is a syncretic phenomena which is strongly connected both to the other cultural fields and localized versions of the genre in different cultural areas. This makes the polycultural approach one of the most productive methods in comparative investigations. Comparative literary study helps to distinguish universal ballad archetypes that belong to common folk outlook and at the same time it points out the peculiar features of genre variations, that makes perspective of future investigations in this sphere.
