Abstract
Nowadays, almost all developed countries (the USA, Japan, South Korea, China, India, Russia and the EU countries) focus on the development of technology as the most powerful tool by means of which in future they will be able to solve the major global problems (food deficit, environmental issues and protection of the environment, depletion of natural resources, etc.).
The article deals with the theoretical aspects of the concept of "convergence", analyzes the synergetic connection between its four platforms for social progress and development of the industrial environment.
