Abstract

The formation of domestic classical university students’ intellectual skills in the pedagogical studies of the 50-60-th of the XX-th century is analyzed. It is established that a number of normative documents appeared during this historical period, where the need to form intellectual skills was empathized.

However, it was found that the development of this issue was promoted not only by the laws and decrees of the ministry, but also by the thorough scientific work. In particular, during this period scientists identified the content, the essence and interconnection of different skills. Educators came to the conclusion that knowledge in the process of application in practice is directly related to skills applied during practical activities.

It was at that time when main methods of the acquisition of special skills began to emerge. In particular, the researchers concluded that mastering the theory is preceded by the practical use of the knowledge. Thus, in the process of skill formation, practice and theory are inextricably linked. It was argued that the knowledge system is always based on the appropriate system of skills and knowledge, and knowledge is checked by various skills. In general, skills were considered as a process of applying knowledge under specific conditions.

Researchers pointed out that intellectual skill allowed gaining profound knowledge during the educational process and could be effectively used in students’ practical activities. At that time, some scientific works devoted to the process of identifying and organizing the intellectual skills during the educational process at higher educational institutions were carried out.
