Abstract

The article outlines the discourse of the research on the creative heritage of A. Krymsky, which functions within the variations of the paradigm “abandoned homosexuality” – “Christian asceticism”. For the interpretation of the leading characters in the novels “Andriy Lagovsky” by A. Krymsky’s and “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by O. Wilde the central code of the semantic paradigm of the courtesy concept and the phenomenon of “fin’amor”, a love that alone can pull a man out of the embrace of everyday life and bring above the world of humiliating materiality, were used. Modernist writers, building up a type of a new man in literature, intellectual and exceptional personality, try to remove in their works the eternal taboos from the “forbidden”, particularly “immoral” themes, and thus freeing up a new man and his own creative personality with the clinging of public morality. In this sense, the texts of the novels become an area of “immoral” freedom, since in both works there is a conscious author’s intention to provoke deliberately the foundations of contemporary bourgeois outlook of society. Transparently insinuating the queer-identity of their heroes, both authors actually advocate a high sense of absolute love for another person, deprived of the slightest hint of any physiology or eroticism.
