Чорне море й Азовське море в українському козацькому епосі

Анотація
У статті йдеться про спробу М. Грушевського актуалізувати значення моря, як географічної й природної підоснови територіальної історії України. Його цікавила козацька доба та часи нового заселення Чорноморсько-Азовського побережжя після ліквідації Січі. Ідеї М. Грушевського спрямували дослідницьку працю К. Грушевської в річище пошуків польових матеріалів, які б засвідчили органічний зв’язок Чорного й Азовського морів з історичним буттям українців. К. Грушевська звернула увагу на публікацію думи про пригоду на морі Олексія Поповича у збірнику англійських і шотландських балад Ф. Д. Чайльда, як паралелі до шотландської балади «Сповідь Брауна Робіна». Тим самим текст української народної думи було введено в коло пісенного фольклору мореплавних народів. К. Грушевська зосередилася на вивченні ритуальної практики, пов’язаної з виїздом у море, зафіксованої етнографом В. Кравченком у Бердянську. Це дало підстави для розгляду фольклорної творчості і звичаїв українських мореплавців, як окремої соціальної групи. В полі зору дослідниці були й польові записи художника і етнографа П. Мартиновича 1897–1902 рр. з козацького села Вереміївка на Полтавщині, що стосуються Азовського моря. Це фабулати, в яких запорожці асоціативно пов’язаніз образом Ісуса Христа на основі усвідомлення сотеріологічної функції козацтва в історії України. Народні оповідачі вважали запорожців лицарями й «праведниками у Бога», які мали риси святих, богатирів. Меморіалізація козацтва пов’язана з переживанням Тріумфу і Травми народу, що в сукупності витворили образ запорожця-героя, захисника, який втілював ідею обраності. Гідроніми ж українського героїчного епосу, зокрема й Чорне та Азовське моря, стали важливим маркером козацького простору, з його тріумфами і поразками.
