Review: Skirda V.V., Shramko B.A. The History of Primitive Societies. Textbook. — Kharkiv: V.N. Karazin KhNU, 2018 . — 172 p.
Abstract
The Review addresses the positive innovations of the textbook “The History of Primitive Societies”. It is stated that the textbook meets both the requirements of the lecture course and the principles of a contemporary approach to the history of mankind. Several remarks do not reduce the scholarly level of the textbook. Among them is the scientifically unverified use of the term “promiscuity”, introduced in Soviet literature in the 1960s. In all other parameters, the textbook meets the requirements for educational literature. Without content loss, it briefly presents the main stages of anthropogenesis and historical periods of sociogenesis. Methodological questions and tasks, which constitute a core element of the cognitive activity of students, are presented after each section. Importantly, the dictionary of terms and concepts supplements the content of the textbook.
