Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of teaching literature at school. The author presents the results of a joint experience of reading of “The Divine Comedy” with her pupils. Along with the well-established approach to fiction — “close-reading” — the author demonstrates the use of other methodologies such as “directed reading”, “thinking out loud”, “a diary of double entry”, “bit-by-bit reading” and others. The author emphasizes the need to read by “heart” in contrast to the intellectual interpretations that avoid the personal experience of the reader.
