The ways of intensification of teaching Russian foreign students of medical specialties
Abstract
The article deals with problems of teaching Russian to foreign medical students who study at the higher schools inUkraine. The authors give highlights of the most important communicative needs of this group of students. They argue that intensifying the process of teaching Russian to foreign students is the best way to solve the existing problems. Intensification is considered as a two-fold phenomenon: in the psychological plane, it is an activation of thinking processes of the student; in the methodical one, it is a special teaching structure that makes it possible to maximize a volume of the learnt material in a small amount of time. Intensification of teaching Russian to the author-defined contingent of foreign students is based on the principles of the intensive method of teaching foreign language and is determined by the totality of four parameters: 1) amount of the learned material; 2) quantity and variability of techniques; 3) closeness of communication; 4) activation of a person’s mental reserves.
The authors present a methodical description of the Russian course “Parallel” made by the language training department of the Centre of International Students Training of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
This is an intensified Russian course for medical students who study in English. The intensifying effect is achieved by the concentrated structuring of the language and speech material, a large amount and variability of teaching approaches that are implemented by means of pre-communicative, training and communication role play exercises and tasks; and closeness of communication is supported by the structuring of the teaching material and continuity of levels within the scope of this course.
