The article reconstructs the ideals and education "programs" of regimental and
company sergeant sons in the XVIII century. In particular, it turns out the institutional dimension and understanding of the goals of education. It is concluded that education strategies, common among Cossack, did not remain constant throughout the 18th century. The value of "Latin" education and training were revised and supplemented by new ideals, as well as in connection with entering into the circle of the Russian Empire' social elite.
