Predictors of appearance of visual sociology, its methodological foundations and the role in the development of modern sociological reflection are examined in the paper. Important aspects of introduction of photographic content in sociology and related new heuristic possibilities of sociology are comprehended. It is proposed to consider the phenomenon of social photography on the example of a series of photographs by Diana Arbus. Appealing to the ideas of M.Foucault and G. Vattimo helped to reveal features of appearance of visual images in the world of "frustrated covers" or "transparent society".
