the basis of the analysis of professors and students’ complex memories of Kharkiv University in the XIX – early XXth centuries. These «places of memory» emerge around several key aspects such as the beginning of the University history, its periods, significant events, the protagonists, the localization of the University in space. The author also considers the issues of correlation between autobiographical and collective memory, the transformation mechanisms of personal memories into collective ones.
