To the Question on the Term «Republicans» in the Modern Historiography of the Late Roman Republi
Keywords:
«the Republicans», res publica, «the Pompeians», Late Roman republic.Abstract
The author underlines an incorrect use of the term «Republicans» which is the invention of a modern historiography, for a designation of the notable Romans who in sources were named optimates or the Pompeianes. Actually, this group of the Roman nobility struggled for preservation of the senate power. The Roman res publica has no relation to the republican form of government, and designates «state», besides in political propaganda it was used by the opposite sides as the slogan for legitimation their interestsDownloads
