As a result of the ongoing war, the number of Ukrainians in need of quality rehabilitation care has increased significantly. There is an urgent need to improve the sports and fitness and inclusive rehabilitation system. The state and the scientific community are faced with the task of expanding the availability of modern assistive technologies in sports rehabilitation, as well as improving the skills of specialists in this field and developing new competencies. In order to improve this area of sports rehabilitation, it is necessary to develop new, more modern methods of training highly qualified specialists. The purpose of the study was to determine the essence of physical culture and sports rehabilitation and the content of competencies that modern specialists in this type of rehabilitation should have.

The analysis of scientific literature has shown that the topic of physical culture and sports rehabilitation has not been fully explored, the issues of this area of rehabilitation in wartime and post-war conditions remain unexplored. There are gaps in the study of the competencies necessary to perform the professional duties of a specialist in this field, and there is a need to create a list of knowledge, skills, abilities, communication skills that a modern specialist in the field of physical education and sports rehabilitation should have.

The article considers the essence of physical and sports rehabilitation, investigates the mechanisms of their implementation and tasks, specifies the main problems that hinder the development of physical and sports rehabilitation, namely, the lack of specialists in physical and sports rehabilitation due to imperfect training in educational institutions. The content of the competencies of a specialist in physical education and sports rehabilitation is analyzed and defined.

A list of core competencies of a specialist in physical education and sports rehabilitation is proposed, which will facilitate the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, interact with other health care professionals and specialists, and be able to communicate effectively with patients and their families.
