Abstract

The article describes the elements of the political legacy of the outstanding statesman S. Stambolov in Bulgaria's education system of the late ХІХ and early ХХ centuries. Among them, the author calls adopted during the period 1887–1894 laws, as well as the concept of strict administration and centralized management of educational institutions, which persisted after the resignation of the prime minister. The author comes to the conclusion that the active development of the network of pre-school institutions, primary, secondary and special schools in 1903–1908 was determined not only by the aspirations of the ruling political force, but also by favorable conjuncture. The rise of the country's economy in the early twentieth century allowed «stambolovists» during their second independent stay in power to increase budgetary expenditures for the implementation of significant programs in the field of education.
