THE PHENOMENON OF ETHNIC RENAISSANCE IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZATION

Abstract

The article deals with the ethnic renaissance as a socio-cultural phenomenon of the
era of globalization. The author considers that ethnocultural factor acts as an opposition in relation to
the processes of globalization, but it can play the role of catalyst, when it comes to the development of
sub-ethnic cultures which threaten steady existence of the major cultural communities and disintegrate
them. The author also emphasizes that the content of the ethnic renaissance is not only revival of
culture and a return to the traditions of the past, but it has a modernization tendency, i.e. ethnicity
becomes a principle of renewal of society.
