Focus and Scope

Visnyk of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University Series "Sociological studies of contemporary society: methodology, theory, methods" was founded by department of Sociology of the Kharkiv National University in 1983, during the period of rapid development of sociology at the University of Kharkiv and in Ukraine in general.

For all forty years of its existence, the founder of the publication has been V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

The journal  Visnyk of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Series Sociological studies of contemporary society: methodology, theory, methods  publishes articles that contain the results of current sociological research, the latest theoretical research by Ukrainian and foreign sociologists, understanding the issues of education and youth, analysis of the state of Ukrainian society, as well as sociological journalism and reports on scientific life in Ukrainian sociology.

Purpose and Objectives of the Academic Journal

– to promote the development of national scientific potential and its integration into the global academic community;

– to create a platform for high-quality scholarly communication, ensuring the dissemination of research findings to both national and international academic audiences;

– to foster the development of innovative approaches to the analysis of social, economic, political, and cultural processes taking place in contemporary Ukraine and worldwide.

A panoramic view of Ukrainian society and global contexts through the prism of theoretical and empirical research of the modern world; publications of well-known Ukrainian and foreign scholars, as well as young scientists; current problems and prospects of development of national and world sociology in the context of social uncertainties; analysis of trends and phenomena of development of Ukrainian education and youth - all this is offered to the readers of the Bulletin.

The editorial staff practices open access to published content, supporting the principles of the free dissemination of scientific information and the global exchange of knowledge for universal social progress.

Peer Review Process

Editorial policy of the journal is based on principles

- objectivity and impartiality of the selection of articles;

- high demands on scientific research quality,

- support for new knowledge, encouragement of independent author's ideas and conceptualizations;

- collegiality in making decisions on publication of material,

- availability and efficiency in communicating with the authors,

- strict observance of copyright and related rights and condemnation of plagiarism,

- conflict resolution and error correction: the editorial office is ready to publish corrections, refinements and refusals if necessary.

- adherence to the appropriate level of formal and ethical requirements for the preparation and publication of articles submitted for publication.

All materials, except for reviews and informational messages, are subject to double blind review (the reviewer does not know the name of the author, the author does not know the name of the reviewer), which is carried out by the members of the editorial board - specialists of the relevant scientific field.

The editorial staff reserves the right to shorten articles and edit the language of the article (without distorting the author's position). 

The review covers the following questions: does the content of the article correspond to the topic claimed in the title; whether the article contains sufficient material for publication; does the text, figures of tables require shortening or refinement; whether the compliance with the requirements for presentation, the processing of the graphic material; whether the work is independent and that contains the original author's material; does the article correspond to the formal and ethical requirements for the materials.

The reasons for the negative review may be the lack of novelty, the weak of theoretical or empirical proof of conclusions, the insufficient evidence base, the inability to draw conclusions (or their unfoundedness) and outline the prospect, the incorrect use of the terminology and methodological apparatus, the mismatch with the journal's profile (lack of a proper sociological point of view), etc.

In the case of a negative review, the discrepancy between the material of the journal profile or the existence of substantial remarks, the article may be: a) rejected (and editorial board sends a message to author); B) returned to the author for refinement.

The new article, revised by the author, is reviewed repeatedly. After the positive reviews and proper revision, the article is considered at a meeting of the editorial board, where it being approved to be published.

The editorial board reserves the right to edit or reduce materials accepted for publication (without distorting the author’s position). The authors of the publications are responsible for the authenticity of the facts, names, geonams, quotations, numbers and other information.

 The authors of the articles are responsible for the accuracy of the data presented in the article, the results of the study and the validity of the conclusions drawn, as well as for copyright infringement in the use of external materials. By submitting the article to the editorial board, the authors thereby confirm that during the research and preparation of the article they adhered to ethical requirements, in particular the Code of Ethics of the International Sociological Association (ISA) (http://www.isa-sociology.org/about/isa_code_of_ethics.htm), The Code of Professional Ethics of the Sociologist (SAU) (http://www.sau.kiev.ua/codex.html), and the materials they submit are original and have not been published before.

Authors are fully responsible for accuracy of the facts and data presented in the article, credibility of analysis and validity of the research findings. The author(s) are required to obtain permission to publish any copyright materials that are used in the article. Submitting an article to the journal the author(s) hereby confirm that during research and preparing materials for publication they adhered to professional ethic requirements including ISA (International Sociological Association http://www.isa-sociology.org/about/isa_code_of_ethics.htm), Code of professional ethics of a sociologist (SAU) ((http://sau.in.ua/app/uploads/2019/07/Kodeks-socziologa.docx), and that materials they submitted were original had not been published. Responsibility for copyright infringement and failure to comply with existing professional standards are the authors own.
