Abstract

The paper discusses the concept of meme and its correlation with the painting of different eras. The analysis of existing memes based on famous paintings of world famous artists is pursued: «The Heroes» by Viktor Vasnetsov, «Barge Haulers on the Volga» by Ivan Repin, «Rural Politicians» by John Crimmel, the art cycle «Devastated Sun» by Mingm San and others. The basis for the study was the practical observation of painting and the identification of its characteristic features, which became the reason for the creation of memes. The scientific paper covers both paintings by contemporary artists and representatives of the 19th-20th centuries. It contains the main aspects of the memeticity of art and features of their interpretation by the audience, given the generally accepted cliches. The paper discusses the semantic meaning of painting and derivative memes, the modification of objects of modern culture in the prism of perception by an Internet user. Particularly important is the analysis of the emotional component of the picture and the meme, as well as their comparative analysis in order to identify similar details and differences. The study also analyzes the dependence of the interpretation of a meme and the object of a painting from the stage of development of society, the system of social values that prevailed at the time of introduction with the content. When writing a scientific paper, we also paid attention to the types of the most popular memes that are made from objects of the art of painting, according to scientific and generally accepted classifications. The question of the correlation of painting, as an ancient art of depicting reality, and memes, as modern viral content that reflects reality in the Internet era, is the most important within the framework of this scientific research, since it is precisely the points of intersection and differences that can answer the question about the nature of the popularity of memes and their originality as a content format. The scientific paper is important for the Ukrainian and world scientific communities, because the theme of the development and modern use of memes is urgent in the framework of the information Internet community, which is constantly evolving and is faced with new formats for the presentation of information content
