Abstract

The article deals with the current trends and challenges of tourism development in China; analyses the basic tourist resources of the country, statistical indicators and trends of incoming, outbound and domestic tourism. The article reveales dynamics of tourism contribution into China's GDP, the tourism contribution in general economic occupation of the country, international tourists spending within the country and the major categories of visitors.

The article states that China's entry into the UNWTO has led to the further liberalization of the tourism sector and create conditions for the further tourism development in the country, and access of foreign travel agencies to the Chinese market. The tourism sector has a significant influence on the development of the national economy
