Abstract

The carbochlorination (purification from oxide ion traces) of KCl-NaCl, KCl-BaCl2 and KCl-LiCl eutectics by products of pyrolysis of tetrachlormethane at 973 K is studied by a potentiometric method with the use of a membrane oxygen electrode. The process of carbochlorination of the studied melts is characterized by the second order with respect to O2–. The rate constants (kg·mol-1·min-1) and limits of purification pOlim (pO=-lgmO2-) decrease in the following sequence: KCl-NaCl (k=2.41×107, pOlim=8.8)→KCl-BaCl2(k=1.08×105, pOlim=6,6)→KCl-LiCl(k=6.76×103, pOlim=5.3). Correlations of lgk and pOlim with pIL (the concentration analog of lgγ0,O2-) are practically linear, that allows to estimate the effectiveness of purification of chloride melts possessing different acidities.
