Intercultural Communication as а Subject of Interdisciplinary Theoretical Approach
Abstract
This paper gives an overview of the main concepts and theories in intercultural and cross-cultural communication, thus provides an interdisciplinary approach to the term taking into account modern social and cultural realities. The key statements of the theories of intercultural communication created by E. Hall, G. Hofstede and G. Triandis were discussed. It was emphasized that thanks to the new post-territorial world formation, the new meaning of the concept of «intercultural communication» might be seen. It was concluded that crossing different socio-cultural contexts, the transformation of the functional issue of the concept of «intercultural communication», had actualized the sociocultural approach to the analysis of the studied phenomenon. Its definition was proposed on the basis of theoretical approaches of Kharkiv sociological scientific tradition representatives. Summing up, taking into account the cross-disciplinary status of the phenomenon of intercultural communication, it could be seen that its academic studies should be considered as interdisciplinary approach.
