Abstract

The surface tension and viscosity of the micellar mobile phases containing nonionic surfactant Tween 80 with isopropanol and propionic acid additions in concentrations that included beforemicellar, micellar and submicellar areas were determined. Within the scope of the Giddinds model applying in micellar TLC, the dependence of the mobile phase properties on its elution velocity in ascending TLC mode has been investigated. It was shown, that mobile phase viscosity increase with organic modifier volume fraction increasing, and surface tension decreased respectively. Small amount of propionic acid is moderately influenced on the chromatographic behavior, selectivity and spot form of the coumarin and its hydroxyl and methoxy derivatives as compared with similar additions of isopropanol.
