Abstract

Based on the general principles of nonequilibrium thermodynamics the differential equation was obtained to describe the evolution of the ice crystal size in the supercooled binary water solution. The critical radius of the crystal nucleus, as well as the dependence of the crystal growth rate on the viscosity of the solution, were determined. It was shown that the crystal growth rate in the supercooled solution is limited by the diffusion of dissolved molecules apart from the growing crystal interface deep into the bulk solution
