SOCIETY AND CIVILIZATION: SPLENDOUR AND MISERY OF S. HUNTINGTON'S "THE CLASH OF CIVILIZATIONS"

Abstract

The article is dedicated to criticism of S. Huntington's civilizations theory, as an opposite to it author's own conception of civilization as a supernational unity is suggested. Civilization is defined as a means of human interaction with the world and is characterized with three features: 1) civilizational identity, 2) technologies (in wide understanding, humanitarian and social beforehand) and 3) resources (in wide understandind, human beforehand) necessary to the technologies realization. It is demonstrated that in the XX c. four civilizations may be pointed out: Mussulman, Indian, Chinese and Western civilizations. The latter could have imposed its ideas and technologies to all other world. It is shown that civilizations develop according to the same logic, differences are conditioned by different geographic, historic, cultural circumstances.
