Abstract

The article discusses the concept of multiculturalism group differences of the American social theorist A. M. Young. This concept is based on the recognition of diversity and differences of social groups that are necessary and desirable components of modern society. А. M Young defends policy differences. She contrasts the ideal of universal citizenship and universal ideal of diversity, which is embodied in the ideal of citizenship, differentiated by groups and based on group representation and rights. The article reveals the essence of group differentiation as a fact of social life, identified the main forms of oppression, such as exploitation, marginalization, disability, cultural imperialism and violence; mechanisms of group representation in the context of democratization; the role of the city as a model of social differentiation without domination and oppression.
