Protest Activity of Students: Dynamics and Factors of Development (an Example of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University Students)

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of dynamic characteristics and protest potential actualization factors of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University students. Based on a comparative analysis of data obtained within the research among the students of this university in 2008-2009 and 2014-2015 concluded that the key factors of protest activity are the political and ideological preferences and level of civic identity. The authors emphasize that in the context of increasing level of civic identity as well as reducing the number of communist ideology supporters and slight increase of radical nationalist supporters among V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University students are in certain dissonance with changes in their protest potential, including the increase (11%) of those who does not approve of protest acts, and largely negative attitude to Euromaidan. The reasons for this situation are defined. Attention is paid to the fact that V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University students consider the main achievement of Euromaidan is the development of civil society in Ukraine.
