Mobile Telephony as Object of Sociological Analysis: Experience of Empirical Sociological Researches

Abstract

The paper deals with mobile telephony as the subject of sociological analysis basing on author’s appeal to the data of empiric research. Attention is paid to mobile telephony as a new factor of dynamics of social changes, particularly communicative. The author argues that mobile phone being an instrumental embodiment of communication, has changed the practice of mobility of modern subjects, and influenced their communicative practices. According to the results of analysis of the research data it is proved that mobile telephony in Ukraine is significantly widespread, has its own characteristics and prospects. Sociology should respond not only with comprehension of the processes and changes in social practices and consciousness caused by the emergence, spread and adoption of mobile telephony, but also with the empirical studies of mobile services, forming, supporting and fueling the current communication processes and communication practices of actors.
