The analysis of academic mobility and foreign language skills in terms of their implementation in Ukraine based on the results of university workers qualitative interviews is provided. It is emphasized that foreign language skills and academic mobility practices might be considered as a significant factor on the one side and as a substantial component of the transformation of the educational system of Ukraine on the other side. The statistical data devoted to the number of students obtaining higher education outside the country of citizenship in the world (1975-2012) as a whole and in Ukraine in particular is provided. Additionally, the number of Ukrainians among Polish students (2006 - 2016) is been analyzed. The conceptual foundations of the study of academic mobility based on the studies of international and European educational institutions, as well as on the author's interpretation of academic mobility as an important element of intercultural communication are defined.
