Abstract

The article analyzes the combination of  the utilitarian and ritual significance of pillows in everyday life of Roma families. The concepts of «feather» as an integral part of the romani work are considered. The importance of the pillow as an indicator of wealth and status in the Roma community is displayed.The symbolism of the pillows in Roma folklore is traced, and ritual actions connected with the using of pillows in everyday life are indicated.
