Place Identity as a Result of Environmental Socialization

Abstract

The concept of "place identity" used in environmental psychology is considered in the article. The key ideas and history of environmental psychology are briefly described. The essence of the place identity lies in the fact that it is the result of the individual’s socialization in certain conditions of physical environment. The author believes that an analysis of the concepts used in related disciplines helps not only to conceptualize and formulate ways of place identity studying in general, and cities in particular, but also to develop researches in this area.
