GEOGRAPHICAL ANALYSIS OF CHANGES IN THE NUMBER OF ETHNIC MINORITY POPULATION OF UKRAINE FOR THE CENSUSES OF 1989 AND 2001

Abstract
The article examines national and ethnic composition of the population of Ukraine, namely, ethnic minorities, their numbers for the censuses of 1989 and 2001. Spatial analysis of changes in the ethnic composition of the population of Ukraine. The dependence in the distribution of ethnic minorities. It is determined that less intense decline suffered by the minority, which had a compact type of settlement, especially in rural areas. Conversely, the minority population, which were dispersed settled mostly in urban areas, reduced more intensively. Thus, among the total population of Ukraine the level of the share of each group remained very small.
