The Manipulation Strategy in the Antihero’s Communicative Behavior in the American Film Discourse

Abstract

The article analyzes the means of implementing the discursive strategy of manipulation in the antihero’s communicative behavior in the American film discourse. The strategy is implemented through the tactics of provoking the desired response, gradual provision of information, giving indirect answers, pointing out similarity or affinity and distancing from others, presenting an opinion as the truth, offering a benefit, shifting the responsibility onto others, threatening, faking sympathy or appreciation. The article also determines the verbal means of implementing such tactics.
