Abstract

The 20 and 45 vol.% "water - glycerol" system was studied by visual observation of macrospecimens and cryomicroscopy and results obtained were compared with the literature data obtained by electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. It has been shown that the cooling - warming leads to the critical state due to a second order phase transition and a first order condensation phase transition. As a result the system undergoes a phase separation and becomes a two-phase amorphous dispersed system. No crystallization was observed. At the temperature of liquid nitrogen the system represents a two-phase glass.
