Abstract

The impact of Magdeburg Law on formation of relations between the state and self-government bodies
has been researched. The domestic and foreign experience of introducing changes into the legal
norms and organization of “free cities” has been analyzed. The speci c status of those cities and the
possibility to apply the said law to the state developmental policy as regards preservation of historical
areas and a traditional environment, as well as the responsibility of communities for safeguarding the
monuments and adapting them to urbanized territories’ needs have been considered.
