Social Indicators and Their Transformation on the Different Period of Social Development

Abstract

The current trends of modernization processes, which played an important role in the formation of new approaches to measuring social welfare in the system of social relations, are examined in the paper. In particular, the analysis of the shift from the purely economic indicators towards the concept of sustainable development based on economic, environmental and social components is executed. The results of the author's content analysis of publications of the leading sociological professional editions that address the issue of social indicators and describe the results of their use in Ukraine and Russia are presented. The indicators of various social indexes for Ukraine in large-scale international comparisons are presented. The significance of the increase of measurement of such indicators like life satisfaction index and population happiness during the financial crisis time is emphasized.
