Abstract

The article examines the use of spatial data infrastructures (SDI) as a new class of computer geographic information resources in the theory and practice of research aimed at solving contemporary problems of the region. There features of components (include basic spatial data sets, specialized data sets, metadata, geographical information nodes) of the regional SDI are identified. The general requirements (territorial binding, two-level information exchange, the only geo-referencing, integration with GIS) and stages of its creation (conceptual, preparatory, logical, physical) are grounded in this article.
