The fictional city in modern fantastic novels: peculiriaties of topos of New Crobuzon in China Miéville’s novels

Abstract

The analysis of fictional topos of New Crobuzon in novelistic trilogy «Perdido Street Station», «Scar», «Iron Council» by China Miéville is represented in the article. Fictional urban space is one of the most important technique in organization of fantastic text. The basic bibliography of the problem is highlighted, key trends in the study of urban space in foreign literary studies are picked out. The following significant parameters of New Crobuzon topos are revealed: dialectic of discontinuity and totality, corporeality, hybridity. It was determined that district structure prevails the street structure in the topos of New Crobuzon.
