Abstract

This article is dedicated to the soundscape's functions and specifics in M. Gorky's story «The woman". It also works with symbolic meaning of these sound images. The soundscape analysis helps to remake phonic picture of the world and helps to characterize the receptive subject.

It is typical for the M. Gorky's story «The woman» some kind of soft key, an opposition of silence and full sound has it's own meaning, a bell ringing is a very important symbol. Nature sounds acquire semanticist load which depends on  physical and emotional condition of the narrator. It is interesting, that the soundscape of this story is in parallel with the main hero's life. The symbol meaning of different sound images (including silence, whisper, bell ringing) is the cause to consider M. Gorky's prose in a Silver age art search context.
