Abstract

Introduction. The subject-object essence and purpose of the publication consist in deeper analysis and updating ideas about the phenomenon of sustainable metropolitan centers and the space of their control. The mail topic of the publication consists in an emphasized attempt to draw the attention of the interested community to the value and uniqueness of Life, which is fleeting in a synthetic or natural environment once again, and also to draw the attention to the existential factors of its sustainability.

Methods. The proposed investigation is based on data received from official sources as well as based on objective methods, techniques and research technologies (induction, information technologies, modeling, expeditionary, sociological, cartographic methods) usage. A number of methods and approaches were involved during our investigation (analysis and synthesis, dialectical, statistical, mapping, modeling, sociological, comparative-geographic analysis).

Results. The understanding of fundamental factors of oikumena’s sustainable space functioning as well as its main element - eco-people is disclosed. In the field of geography and ecology theory development visual and imaginative models have been discovered that reflect the issues of a sustainable capital city both in terms of traditional interpretation as well as in terms of its security and threat factors. The existential factors of the constancy of Life, its value and uniqueness are focused on. The meaning of the concepts of “risk geography”, “eco-space”, “eco-city”, “sustainability”, “karma of the territory” as well as “compromise capitals” has been proposed as well as the range of their application has been expanded. A retrospective of the evolution of ideas regarding the ideal organization of public space and sustainable ecopolises has been fragmentarily “vocalized”. A wide array of interscientific and interdisciplinary information has been systematized. The research is closely connected with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular with 11 Goal “Sustainable development of cities and communities.”

Discussion. It is necessary to note, that the information proposed in the paper is presented in the order of discussion only. It is based on the author’s objective experience and adequate perception of natural and socio-geographical phenomena and processes. It is not devoid of insularity and subjectivity.

Conclusion. structural-logical models that fragmentarily reflect the issues of sustainable capital city both from the standpoint of its security factors and threats as well as from traditional interpretation thinking are proposed in the frames of geographic theory development; the essence of “risky geography”, “eco-space”, “eco-city”, “karma of the territory”, “compromise capitals” concepts is deepened as well as the range of their application is expanded; the ideological essence of “sustainability” category is deepened by focusing on its anthropological component; a retrospective of ideas about optimal organization of public space as well as about the development of sustainable eco-polices are fragmentarily proposed; the issues of spatial sustainability and city sustainability will progress over time, becoming increasingly relevant nowadays.
