Abstract

The article describes some main trends and stages of development of Ukrainian and Russian historical studies in the West (mainly in North America) in the second half of the 20th and early 21st centuries. The author focuses on the issues of methodology, terminology, and interpretations of Ukrainian and Russian history.

Western historians studying Ukrainian-Russian relations face many obstacles that can be explained by the political preferences of authors and inertia of traditional stereotypes inherited from the past.
