The article analyzes the heritage of M. Popruzhenko (1866–1944), who was a professor of Slavic Studies at universities in Odessa and Sofia. The author links his areas of research in Odessa with his professional interests in Sofia. Special attention is given to the subjects which Popruzhenko continued to study after he had been compelled to leave his motherland. This allows us to determine those research topics which became exclusive for Popruzhenko’s works in Odessa and in Sofia
