Deep reasons and pushing factors for the celebration of the international day of democracy.

Abstract

The subject of the analysis is the clarification of the underlying reasons and motivating factors for the celebration of the International Day of Democracy. The relevance of the above-mentioned issues primarily lies in the fact that the democratization of political institutions should be based on proper education and active participation of citizens. Therefore, important attention should be paid to the preparation and holding of events on civic and legal education, in this case, the International Day of Democracy. Civil servants and officials of local governments should also take an active part in this process, because commitment to democratic principles is generally a prerequisite for the performance of official duties in the field of public administration. Indeed, democracy primarily denotes a system where representatives of the people (civil servants) exercise power in the interests of the people, answering to them, implementing the principles of democracy through representative, direct or participatory democracy. However, the celebration of this event is often marked by excessive formality, and events are limited to two or three days at best, when information regarding democracy and the relevant processes that accompany the development of society appears mostly formal and superficial.

The study substantiated and further proved that broad public participation in events marking the International Day of Democracy should also indicate a mass belief in the significance of democratic institutions and the importance of the struggle to protect the ideals of democracy. Support by Ukrainians for the democratic vector of development also becomes a confirmation of the desire to live in an independent, democratic, social and legal state. The author's proposals are based on the rejection of formalism and organization in the celebration of this event, which ultimately should contribute to the real affirmation of democratic principles in the practice of public governance and in public relations in general. The core of our proposals lies in the content richness and a certain time extension of such events, which should raise public awareness and be held at the appropriate professional level, taking into account the different levels of preparedness of the audience or "information consumers".
