Modern features of the existence of a set of globally rare Lepidoptera species in the Oril River valley are considered. The studies reported 46 species of various conservation statuses (14 species are included in the list of IUCN; 22 in the Red Book of Ukraine; 9 in the European list of animals and plants threatened with extinction on a global scale, 46 in the Red Books of Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv Regions). A variety of living conditions in the Oril valley enables formation of a mixed zoogeographical complex represented by six major groups (Palearctic – 35% of the rare species registered; Mediterranean – 22%; European – 13%; Eurosiberian – 13%; Western Palearctic – 11%, Pontoasian – 6%). The majority of globally rare species (52%) recorded in the area in question belongs to the mesophilic group that meets azonal conditions of the valley.
