Ornithological studies by I.B.Volchanetskiy in the northern part of Lower Volga Region (to the 120th birth anniversary)

I.B.Volchanetskiy's scientific contribution to studying the avifauna of the northern part of Lower Volga Region has been analyzed. Events in his life largely reflect stages of the formation of the regional ornithologists community in the first half of the 20th century, as well as the formation of this direction in Saratov State University. The study of aviafauna of Saratov Region was begun in 1922 and stimulated a significant increase in ornithological research in the region. The beginning of formation of ornithological scientific collection in Saratov University is also linked with the name of I.B.Volchanetskiy.
